Annie Mae (Kelley) Bunn

October 26, 1921 ~ 2004

Services: Mon., Mar. 1, 2004 11 a.m.

Viewing and visitation begins Sunday, February 29, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., with an hour of meditation and reflection to be to be held at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Jesse E. Cooley Jr., Mortuary for Annie Mae Bunn, 82, who went to her Heavenly home February 25, 2004.

Funeral services will be held March 1, 2004, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, California Ave., Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Hiawatha Calhoun will officiate.

Annie was born October 26, 1921, in Wewoka, OK, to Marshall and Mary Kelley. She was the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Douglas High School in Wewoka, Annie married Samuel Viewins, to this union two children were born. Later she married Pecola McCloud. One son was born of this union. The family moved to Bakersfield, CA, in 1946. In 1965, Annie attended Bakersfield College where she took classes to become a licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Kern General Hospital (Kern Medical Center) for more than 30 years until her retirement.

Annie took great interest in her children's education. She was active in their school's PTA, where she held offices as secretary and later president. Not only was she active in community service organizations: Eastern Star, Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, National League of Negro Women, etc., but she was also very active in her church and district organizations where she served as Sunday School Teacher, General President of the Women's Mission Dept., etc. Seeking to learn more of God and the Bible, Annie Took courses and graduated in 1990 from the San Joaquin District Bible Institute. She was also a very courageous person, following her love of God and her love of the Bible, she decided to visit the "Holy Land." She left the states and took a lone trip to Jerusalem, Israel where she documented in film many biblical historical sites.

Annie is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, James, Giles, Marpheal, Meeker and one sister, Mahalia; two husbands, Pecola McCloud, Jr., and Otto Bunn; and one son, Pecola McCloud, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Elijah Viewins and wife, Bernadine and Steven Bunn; one daughter, Frances Viewins-Terry and husband, William; one brother, Marshall Kelley, Jr., and wife, Sarah; nine grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends.
