John Christian Bulling

John Christian Bulling
April 29, 1934 - July 18, 2017

John Christian Bulling was born 83 years ago on April 29, 1934 and went to heaven on July 18, 2017 to be with his beloved wife Lavaughn. Residing in Orlando, OK , John and Lavaughn spent 53 years of marriage raising four children and operating Bermuda Hill Farms, which has been a part of the Bulling family for well over a century.

John grew up in Orlando, OK and was the youngest of two children, his sister Betty being the oldest; born to the late Leota and Otto Bulling. He attended Orlando Public Schools. John went to Oklahoma State University at age 17. After a year he dropped out to join the Marines. He spent a year as a Drill Instructor, then a 16-month tour of duty in Korea. After a three year hitch, he returned to graduate from Oklahoma State University in 1957 with a Bachelor's in Agronomy.

After graduation he moved back to the family farm with his new bride Lavaughn and started raising registered Hereford cattle. It did not take him long to raise four children and instantly develop all the siblings into effective ranch hands. John was considered "progressive" in his zeal to improve and extend performance of his crops and his cattle as well. His show cattle were recognized throughout the state and nationally as champion Herefords. Some of the accomplishments and honors that he was most proud of included: (1) Outstanding Hereford Breeder in Oklahoma; (2) Advisor to the Oklahoma Junior Hereford Association; (3) one of the founding members of Oklahoma BEEF, Inc. (OBI); and (4) a leader and pioneer in the use of Artificial Insemination.

In later years, Bermuda Hill Farms expanded into becoming a stocker/feeder cattle operation, which ran over 15,000 head on an annual basis.

John is survived by his four children, Teri Hirlinger, Rene Rodgers, Chris Bulling, and Scott Bulling. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Emmett Robison.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Orlando United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Oklahoma City, OK Office, 3000 United Founders Blvd., Suite 108, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org/donate, or the Orlando United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6, Orlando, OK 73073.
