Johnnie Lee Bryant was born October 11, 1933 in Henrietta, Texas to Lillie V. Stallworth and Clarence Spencer. She was reared in Henrietta; at the age of seven, the family then moved to Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Shortly afterwards, they relocated to Enid, Oklahoma.
Johnnie affectionately known as "Peggy" attended Booker T. Washington School. She accepted Christ at an early age in her life. Peggy was a chapter member and a church mother at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Barry Robinson.
She was a member of the Northern Light Chapter #59 Order of The Eastern Stars; Past Worthy Matron; Amos T. Hall Court #22 Heroines of Jerricho; Johnel Newton Guild #16; American War Mothers; Interracial Women and Board Member for Southern Heights Community Organization.
Peggy was employed at the Oakwood Country Club for many years, Lamberts Department store and worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. She worked as an accounting cashier then later retired after twenty-six years in 1994.
She met and then later married Thelmer Bryant on June 16, 1984. The couple remained happily married and dedicated to each other.
Johnnie enjoyed reading harlequin romance novels, and her annual trips to her favorite place, Las vegas. She loved to play bingo, and serve for her church home and community. She had a great liking for The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, a good golf game and baking her famous lemon cake.
On April 1, 2020 God called Johnnie from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Thelmer Bryant of the home; Her children Lillie Crayton, Beverly Hughes and Billie Bickham all of Enid, Ok, Norman (Yolanda) Bickham, Linda Norwood and Hope Smith all of Oklahoma City, Ok. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, two brothers, and Nephew.
Johnnie was loved by many and will be truly missed.
Grave side services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
