Melba Jean Margaret Stuart was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Fort Worth, the youngest child of 12 to Salvation Army officers James and Harriett Dunning Stuart, who both immigrated to America from Scotland and England.
Jean grew up with her family in Enid, Okla. and graduated from Enid High School in 1939. She married Joy Earl Brown of Enid, Okla. in 1942, and began a naval 'port-of-call' military life together with her husband after he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Jean and Joy ultimately settled in Arlington in 1972, after Joy's retirement. Jean attended Arlington Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Encore Club-Arlington and Arlington Women's Club.
Jean was a sweet, caring, spiritual woman of strong Christian faith and traditional family values. This small-town girl had warm smiles, kind words, and a holiday heart to give to everyone, always putting 'OTHERS' before herself in keeping true to her Salvation Army heritage.
Her parent's Old World ways and charm lived on through Jean and were passed on to her own family. A legacy we will always cherish. Mom, you are much loved and dearly missed, "...the rose that climbed our garden wall has blossomed on the other side."
She was preceded in death by her parents; all her siblings; and her dear husband of 62 years, Joy.
Survivors: loving family of children, Joy E. Brown Jr. (Ann) of Bradley Calif.; Phyllis J. Guess (Roger) of Arlington, Texas; Richard S. Brown also of Arlington; and Steven D. Brown (Neshia) of Bryan, Texas; five grandchildren, (Catherine, Julie, Brian, Shelley, Stuart); and three great-grandchildren, (Ella, Hannah, Owen).
