Louise May (Bellmyer) Brown 93 of Copan, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday January 2, 2018 at her daughter's home in Caney, Kansas.
Celebration of life service will be 10:00 am Friday January 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Copan, Oklahoma with the Reverend David Head of Cleveland, OK officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas, under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, Coffeyville, Kansas.
Louise May (Bellmyer) Brown was born May 10, 1924 in Copan, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jessie Arlie and Evelyn Bell (Wagaman) Bellmyer.
Louise was a member of the United Methodist Church of Copan. Louise attended school in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and as well as country schools in the Copan, Oklahoma area. Louise was raised on a small dairy farm and later worked at Continental Can, Coffeyville, Kansas as a "Rosie the Riveter" during wartime. Later she worked a short time at Electra then with her husband Bucky Brown became involved in the oil industry for over 72 years. Throughout taking care of oil leases she worked with Copan City Administration as a board member for City Council, in the year of September 1991 and as Copan City Mayor, February 4, 1992 – April 21, 2003.
Sister Louise Brown was initiated into Copan Chapter No. 375 on November 11, 1974 and her Masonic Affiliation was her husband Lawrence D. "Buck" Brown who was a member of Copan Lodge #442. She served as Worthy Matron of Copan Chapter eight terms (1976, 1977, 1985, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2000) and held various Grand Chapter Committee appointments. She was always very active in her Chapter serving in numerous other stations.
She became a member of Dewey Chapter upon Copan's consolidation with Dewey, Oklahoma Chapter. As a member of Dewey Chapter she was excited to serve as a Grand Representative of Nebraska in Oklahoma from 8/1/2001 through 9/31/2003 and served as a Grand Committee Member of Symbolism in 2006 and again in 2007, of Membership in 2008, Membership again 2010, and of Symbolism in 2011. Louise. She was an active member until her health began to fail. She was especially proud that four generations of her family were members of Dewey, Copan Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star (along with her were daughter Linda, Granddaughter Mary, and Great Granddaughter Marci).
Louise also belonged to Bartlesville Court #25, Order of the Amaranth and was a Past Royal Matron. She was also a member of Sunshine Court, Order of the Amaranth holding various offices. She felt it was a privilege to serve the Order of the Amaranth as a Grand Officer of Oklahoma Grand Court for various stations. She was a member of White Shrine and held various offices in that order.
Her membership in these groups was very important to Sister Louise and she served as long as her health remained good.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Doyle (Buck) Brown on January 16, 1946 in Joplin, Missouri. Louise was previously married to Leo Blanton Mayse, Pawhuska, Oklahoma and had one daughter Margaret Ann (Mayse) Bird, of Caney, Kansas and another daughter Linda Louise (Brown) Edwards, of Copan, Oklahoma with Lawrence Doyle Brown.
Louise is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann (Mayse) Bird, Caney, KS. and Linda Louise (Brown) Edwards, Copan, OK., two grandsons Kenneth Dean Bird Jr., Bartlesville, OK., Aaron David Bird and wife Donna of Wayside, KS., One Granddaughter Mary Dee (Edwards) Deaton and husband John of Bartlesville, OK., two brothers Elmer Bellmyer, Livingston, TX., and Freddie Bellmyer of Caney, KS., two sisters Maxine Medearis, of Weatherford, TX., and Harriett Thomas Copan, OK. one half sister Kathy Thornton, Tulsa, OK. one great granddaughter Marci Ann (Bowline) Chinn and husband Justin, Bartlesville, OK., two great grandsons Kit Colton Bird, and Tye Winter Bird, Wayside, KS., one great great granddaughter Kannyn Lee Chinn, Bartlesville, OK., along with many numerous nieces and nephews.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Doyle (Buck) Brown, parents Jessie Arlie and Evelyn Bell Bellmyer, seven brothers, Gerald, Eugene, Russell, Claude (J.C.), Bobby, A.J. and Larry Bellmyer. One great granddaughter Kandra Skye Bird.
