James Robert ‘Jim’ Brown
October 30, 1941 ~ April 3, 2024

James ‘Jim’ Robert Brown entered this earth October 30th, 1941, and entered his heavenly home on April 3, 2024 at the age of 82.

Jim was born to Verbal Gertude Jones and Jeff Davis Brown in Newton Texas, the second of three boys. He graduated from Shawnee High School before joining the Army National Guard in March of 1959. He was promoted to Specialist 4th class and served at Fort Mead in Maryland, overseas in Germany and Fort Sam Houston. He served his country with honor and pride.

Jim married Nancy Colleen Burrows October 23rd, 1960. They welcomed three boys of their own, Jeffery David, James Cheyenne and Michael Wayne. James and Nancy traveled with the army for 3 years, before settling in Shawnee Ok to raise their family. Once out of the Army Jim chose to further serve his community by becoming a Shawnee Firefighter in July 1965. In 1980 he became Fire Marshall until his retirement in 1994. He took great pride in being a firefighter and it was something he cherished his entire life.

After retirement Jim was still active and enjoyed his favorite activities of hunting, fishing and spending time with friends. He could often be found in the mornings at McDonalds having breakfast with a group of gentlemen.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nancy, Mother Verbal and Father Jeff. His brothers Bill and Sam, twin sisters who passed away at birth, as well as one brother. One grandson, Christopher Michael Lawrence. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons Michael Brown and his Wife Becky, Cheyenne Brown and his Wife Julia and Jeffery Brown. Two Granddaughters, Linsay (Brown) Underwood and her husband Christopher, Amanda Dickinson and her husband Kevin and four Great Grandchildren, Clara and Michael Underwood and Alyssa and Dixie Haley.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home and continue through service time. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Parker, Dale Baptist Church of Dale officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Newton Cemetery, Newton, Texas under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
