Jowanda Brown born October 5, 1957 in Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ January 1, 2016 in Dallas, Texas at the Presbyterian Hospital.
Jo was a special, loving, caring person. As a young girl growing up in New Mexico she loved being a Brownie and Girl Scout. She was a graduate of Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was a member of the high school choir and active member of the high school rodeo team until graduation in 1976. Jo was an active member of the Community Church in Sandis Park, New Mexico where she tended the nursery school for several years. She had lived in Durant for the past 21 years and attended New Hope Nazarene Church. She loved her church family, giving greeting cards to others and baking sweets of all kinds.
She was the precious and sweet daughter of Clyde and Elwanda Brown of Durant, Oklahoma; also survived by sister, Renda Kay Brown of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Wesley Brown of Durant, Oklahoma; aunt, Kay Carter of Calera, Oklahoma; uncle, Gerald Gillham of Ducula, Georgia; aunt, Vivian Tyler of Durant, Oklahoma and numerous cousins.
Jo is preceded in death by; infant sister, Laura Beth Brown; grandparents, L.D. and Una Gillham also Harry and Clara Brown.
A family hour will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday, January 7 at the family home 46 Englewood in Durant. A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, January 8 at the New Hope Nazarene Church in Durant.
