Memorial service for Margaret Jane Brooks, 85, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Shanoan Springs Nursing Home.
Margaret Jane Brooks was born August 2, 1918, in Sherman, Texas, the daughter of Louis Francis and Margaret [Gibbons] Brooks, and died June 13, 2004, in Chickasha.
Jane suffered as a newborn with cerebral palsy. She was severly paralyzed the remaining of her 85 years.
Jane spent the vast years of her youth in Purcell, Oklahoma. She resided in the original home of her grandparents, Amelia and James E. Gibbons. Mr. Gibbons was well known in this area of central Oklahoma for developing land which had been obtained during the "Historical Land Run of Oklahoma." Mr. Gibbons was very civic minded and active politically for many years.
Her mother and Jane moved from Purcell to Chickasha in the early 1950s, when they reorganized the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf on the college campus.
Jane had a wonderful outlook on life. She loved people and had many dear friends.
Survivors include one sister, Frances Brooks Hixon; two nephews, William Lloyd Hixon, Jr., and Robert Brooks Hixon; and one niece, Margaret Frances Griffith.
The family wished to extend a special thanks to all the very kind and thoughtful nurses at Shanoan Springs Nursing Home and to the many doctors who had cared for her for these past years.
Services are under direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
