James D Brooks, Sr.

August 2, 1948 ~ December 25, 2019 (age 71)

James D. Brooks, Sr., age 71, of Shawnee, OK passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019  in Oklahoma City.

He was born August 2, 1948 in Shawnee, OK to J. A. and Helen Francis (Steph) Brooks.

James was raised in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Public Schools.

He proudly served his country during Vietnam with The United States Marines. James went to work for Southwestern Bell as a Lineman before becoming a Construction Supervisor until his retirement in 2001.

After James completed his time with the Marines he met, and married, Kathie Rouse on June 1, 1975 in Norman, OK. They lived in Shawnee, Bartlesville, and Oklahoma City before settling in Bethel Acres in 1991, where they have lived since.

James was a member of the Masonic Composite Lodge #107 in Shawnee for close to 30 years. He was a huge John Wayne fan and loved watching Western movies. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially in Wewoka, Broken Bow and Texoma. James also loved to deer and bird hunt in Hulah, OK. He enjoyed an annual trip to Rainy Lake in Ontario, Canada. James was an avid OU sports fan and loved watching all OU sports.

He was preceded in death by his father, J. A. Brooks; brother, Roger Brooks; aunt, Mary Lamb; and his in-laws, Harold and Jean Rouse.

James is survived by his wife, Kathie of the home; son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Andrea Brooks of Shawnee; daughter, Shannon Brooks of Shawnee; mother, Helen Brooks of Shawnee; 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Linda Rakett of Midwest City and Sherrie and Tim Parsons of Tecumseh, OK; 7 grandchildren, Chase, Hailey, Roger, Hunter, Cierra, Rachel, and Quentin, Jr.; 1 great granddaughter, Amya Prince; and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Noon, Tuesday, December 31, 2019 and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Tecumseh, Oklahoma with Reverend Phil Thompson of Liberty Baptist Church officiating, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
