Dawn Gay (Merideth) Brooks
June 1, 1943 ~ October 25, 2021

A visitation with the family in memory of Dawn Gay Brooks will be Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Flynn Street, Alva. A private ceremony with family will be held at a later date.

Dawn Gay Brooks, daughter of the late James Austin and Ruth Josephine (Wright) Merideth, was born June 1, 1943, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away October 25, 2021, at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 24 days.

Dawn Gay graduated from Alva High School, then obtained Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology and Physical Science from Northwestern Oklahoma State College in Alva. On Sept 12,1962, she was united in marriage to Terry Pat Brooks in Hardtner, KS.

Dawn Gay was a believer in that anything worth doing should be done right. She passionately loved God and her family. She loved to help others, especially by working hard and helping her customers in all their business endeavors. Dawn Gay was very active in the community of Alva. Throughout her business career she worked at Northwest Family Services teaching children, was Manager of the Alva KALV radio station, began TASK Business Services to help seniors with their Medicare/Medicaid concerns, sold advertising to businesses for the Alva Newsgram, and she started and managed Brooks Insurance Agency.

At home she had multiple on-going hobbies and especially enjoyed teaching her Grandchildren all that she knew. Together they cooked, cleaned, raised plant and vegetable gardens and chickens, refinished furniture, sewed, painted and much more. She was a Member of the Grace and Faith Fellowship and Alva’s First United Methodist Church.

Dawn Gay is survived by her husband, Terry Pat, of Alva; two sons, Bryan Brooks of Alva and Troy Brooks and wife, Li, of Alva; one sister, Rhonda Stephenson and husband, Danny, of Alva; two grandchildren, Ko Brooks and Torin Brooks; four nieces and nephews, Brooke Hess, Shelley Hickman, Danielle Kaplan and husband, Paul, and Jeremy Stephenson; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Freedom Gates Boy’s Ranch or Northwest Family Services.
