Paul Bernard “Buddy” Broerman of Bartlesville, OK passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the age of 68 after a brief illness. He was born on December 27, 1956 in Oklahoma City, OK and was adopted at birth by Arthur and Aimee Broerman. Paul had cerebral palsy and was an Easter Seal poster child. At age eleven, he developed a spinal cord infection which required him to use a wheelchair. Paul demonstrated great courage and resolve in overcoming these early obstacles and throughout the remainder of his life.
Paul graduated from Sooner High School in Bartlesville in 1975. After graduation, he briefly attended the University of Houston. He transferred to Okmulgee Tech and completed an associate degree in structural engineering and drafting. During this time, he became reacquainted with Barbara Bost. They had known each other as children when they did physical therapy together. Barbara had also been an Easter Seals poster child and they shared a convertible in a local parade. Years later, Paul’s dad ran into Barbara and set them up on a date. They were married on September 21, 1985 and were married for 39 years. They adopted their son, David, when he was 10.
Paul supported himself (and later himself and Barbara) his entire adult life in various jobs, including substitute teaching middle school. He finished his career working for Service & Technology Corporation as a draftsman for several years.
Paul loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted from his wheelchair and fished from a pontoon personal watercraft. He loaded his own ammunition. He had a pistol that would shoot .45 caliber bullets and .410 gauge shotgun shells. He drove vehicles with hand controls all of his life. He was fiercely independent and never let others put limits on him and what he could do. He was undaunted by his physical limitations and always seemed to find a way.
His later years were marked by many health problems, hospitalizations, surgeries and hardships. But through it all, he showed great courage and never gave up.
Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, David, and sister, Lise Anne Rowe. He was predeceased by parents, Arthur and Aimee Broerman.
Paul’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm at East Cross Church, 820 S. Madison, in Bartlesville. The family wishes to thank Shanadoa Home Health Services and Beth Gibson for the loving care they provided Paul for the last several years.
