Abby LaRee (Mosshart) Brobston

Abby LaRee (Mosshart) Brobston
February 23, 1983 ~ August 13, 2020

Abby ran into her Heavenly Father’s arms Thursday, August 13, 2020 after a courageous fight with bile duct cancer. People across the globe prayed through her journey, and their prayers gave her the strength to always choose “Faith Over Fear.”

From her earliest years, Abby lovingly cared for family, friends, and her patients. Her songs, words and actions ministered to others. People felt “lifted up, loved unconditionally, accepted, believed in, fought for, chosen and a part of a community,” according to a friend’s social media post. Abby treated everyone like her best friend.

Abby LaRee was born in Oklahoma City to Tim and Marcia (Stewart) Mosshart on February 23, 1983 at Mercy Hospital, the same hospital where she began her career and worked as an RN for almost 15 years. Clinical coordinator was her most recent professional role at Mercy. Abby was recognized with the Shooting Star award for excellence from Mercy early in her career.

While growing up, music and singing with her family was important and fun. Sister Kendi complimented her smooth alto sound, the voice Michael thought was one of the most attractive things about her. As an adult, she was a member of The Call music group at church. She and Michael were active in children’s ministry, Backyard Kids, and were members of the Roots Sunday school class taught by Tim Taylor. Members of the Roots class supported the couple throughout her illness.

She was a lifelong Bethany resident and member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Bethany High School Class of 2001. At BHS, she played softball, was active in STUCO and on the all-school Homecoming Court. She sang in choir and show choir, and went on two mission trips with her church group. As a teenager, her parents felt she looked at life differently from her friends and thus, was mostly unaffected by high school drama. She was gracious and open to all people.

Abby earned a bachelor’s of science in nursing from Southern Nazarene University in 2005, and was involved in many campus activities, including SGA councils and events. Her senior year, she was on Homecoming Court, the highest honor voted by peers.

While enjoying university life, she met Michael Brobston, the man of her dreams. Michael recognized her beauty and her laugh and smiles, They were married 14 years ago on June 24, 2006. Michael said she was kind, caring and intentional through the years. Abby and Michael have three children, Rhett, 11 years; Reese, 8 years, and Reagan, 3 years.

Abby was an involved Mom and modeled a consistent, personal relationship with the Lord. She helped with piano lessons and schoolwork, emphasized reading the Bible, singing and continuing family traditions. At Rhett’s baseball and basketball games, he loved that she was the loudest one in the stands saying, “Swing hard #10!” “You can do it!” He was supportive and helpful to his Mom, especially during her illness. Reese will remember Mommy praying with her and teaching her a special scripture so she would have sweet sleep.

Throughout her life, she loved spending time with extended family, especially at “The Hill,” her great-grandparents’ home place in Louisiana. It was a special place for the family and she taught her children to love it, too.

Her husband, Michael, said Abby was crazy about family, and had a fierce love and pride about their children. She is also survived by her parents, Tim and Marcia Mosshart; her sister, Kendi and Austin Proctor; nephew, Si, and niece, Birdie; her grandmother, Dolores Mosshart; Michael’s parents, John and Sara Brobston; his brother, PJ and Michelle; and nieces, Haley and Parker; brother, Jeremy and Allison; and nephews, Nathan and Benjamin and niece, Megan Brobston; countless aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of the family, and scores of friends. Grandparents, Ken and Iva Stewart, and Fred Mosshart preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 10:00am in the Atrium at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Funeral arrangements are by Mercer Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK. To share condolences or to view the service after its conclusion, visit www.mercer-adams.com
