Michael "Mike" Douglas Briggs, 61, died Sunday, December 6, at his home in Bartlesville.
Mike was born in Bartlesville, OK, November 2nd, 1954. He was the only son of Lloyd Eugene Briggs, Jr., and Georgia Mae Bush Briggs. He grew up in Tulsa, OK, Coffeyville, KS, and Bartlesville, OK. He graduated from College High School in 1973. He attended Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
Michael married Lillie-Marie Briggs in 1974 and they made a home in Bartlesville for more than 41 years. He was a devoted husband to Lilli and father to their three sons.
Mike worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in International Exploration and Production for many years. And later worked for ConocoPhillips in the Catalytic Lab, where he retired in 2012.
Michael followed football, basketball, NASCAR and enjoyed traveling. But his first love was golf, a passion that lasted his lifetime. He was a member of Adams Municipal Golf Course and regularly played in their senior league.
Survivors include his wife, Lilli, sons Nathan Andrew Briggs, James Michael Briggs and his wife, Sonya, and David Lloyd Briggs and his wife, Danielle; grandchildren Reese, Katelynn, Haily, Jacob, Isabel, Caleb and Elizabeth; his sister Barbara Gail Johnson, his sister, Lori Sue Phelan and her husband, Kevin William Phelan; nieces Melissa Renee Johnson and Ashley Nicole Sanderson and family, and nephews Wade Douglas Phelan and family and Clint William Phelan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Gregory Lawrence Phelan.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Michael's name to the American Cancer Society .
Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8th and 9th, from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Stumpff's Funeral Home in Bartlesville,OK.
Michael's memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, December 10th at 2:00 PM at Stumpff's Funeral Home chapel. Reverend Ross Atkins will officiate.
