Orville J. "Bud" Bridenstine, age 91, born in Caney, KS, and known for his past community service, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Bartlesville, OK.
Funeral services will be held in the Caney First Christian Church, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016, with Pastor Bill Wright officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Caney Sunnyside Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Bud was born August 20, 1924, in Caney the son of Dr. and Mrs. O.B. Bridenstine. He grew up and attended school in Caney, graduating from Caney High School in 1943, Coffeyville Communit College in 1948, and Pittsburg State University in 1950.
He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant with U.S. Marine Raiders from 1943 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.
On January 29, 1950 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Phyllis Lou Wells. Following their marriage they made their home in Caney where they raised their three sons. His wife preceded him in death on September 3, 2013.
Bud was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. and Phillips Driscopipe for 37 years and obtained 13 patents for Phillips, he was Vice-President and Marketing Director for Phillips Driscopipe.
He was a member of the Caney First Christian Church, Teacher, Elder Emitters, and Church Board Chairman. Bud was also a member of American Legion Post #138, Masonic Lodge #324 AF & AM, Wichita Scottish Rite 32nd degree. He served on the Caney School Board, was President of the Caney High School Alumni Association, Caney Lions Club, Caney Valley Historical Society, President of Caney Chamber of Commerce, member of Caney City Council serving as Mayor, and authored a book on Caney history, "Queen City of Montgomery County".
Survivors include two sons, Bland Bridenstine of Catoosa, OK, and Doug Bridenstine of Wichita, KS; three sisters, Nannette Center of Dallas, TX, Polly Pearsall of Caney, KS, and Mary Lou Birkbeck and husband Jim of Holton, KS; two granddaughters, Melanie Boaz and husband Todd of Owasso, OK, and Michelle Golden and husband Ben of Parker, CO; and four great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis; and one son, Don Bridenstine on March 25, 2013.
The family suggests memorials to the Assembly of God Thrift Store (ACTS); contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
