Mary Lou Brewer, 86, formerly of Bartlesville, died Monday, February 17, 2014, in Spring, TX.

Mary Lou was born in Alluwe, OK., October 12, 1927. She was the daughter of Jessie John "Jake" and Josie Johanna Lynch Bowden and is survived by her three younger sisters, Joan, Francis, and Barbara. She graduated from Nowata High School, where she served as drum majorette for the band and loved acting in school plays, in 1946. Into her 80's, Mary Lou could still tell you the name of her teachers and classmates.

Mary Lou was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Herman Noel "Stretch" Brewer, on September 14, 1946, in Coffeyville, KS. They made their home in Nowata, OK, before moving to Norman, OK, while Stretch attended University of Oklahoma (OU). Mary Lou and Stretch returned to Bartlesville, OK, where he was employed for over 30 years by Phillips Petroleum and they raised their four children, John, Steve, Jeff and Judy. Stretch preceded Mary Lou in death in 2004. Mary Lou lived near her daughter and son in law, Judy and Greg Shahan, outside Houston, TX, for the last seven years. She died peacefully in her sleep after spending many days with her three children by her side.

Mary Lou loved family, friends, gardening, and always her many pets (including many dogs, cats and more than a few wild turtles).

Mary Lou is survived by her three children (John Brewer and his wife, Lindy, of Hailey, ID; Jeff Brewer and his wife, Debi, of Bartlesville, OK; and Judy Shahan and her husband, Greg, of Tomball, TX), three grandchildren (MacKenzy Brewer, Alyson Swindley and Jennifer Olson) and four great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Steven Noel Brewer, and two grandsons, Jacob Brewer and Adam Brewer.

Memorial services for Mary Lou Brewer will be held Saturday, February 22, at 2 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bartlesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left and viewed at http://www.davisfamilyfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Mary-Brewer-4/.
