Dr. Lawrence Thomas Brewer, DDS of Apache, Oklahoma was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 23, 1951 to Lonnie and JoAnn Brewer. He passed away at the age of 63 on Saturday, August 16, 2014, doing what he loved to do, flying his airplane.
He was the oldest of six children; five boys and one girl. He married Roxanne Smith of Kansas City, Missouri in 1979.
Larry and Roxanne moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1982, where they started their family and his dental practice. Larry and Roxanne raised two beautiful children; a daughter, Jessica Brewer, 31, of Lawton and a son, Scott T. Brewer, 29, of Apache. Upon arriving in Lawton, Larry did not waste any time in getting his dental practice off the ground, which he opened in 1982.
Between Kansas City and Lawton, Larry practiced dentistry for over 37 years. His primary concern was always to treat his patients fairly, provide the best treatment he could, treat each patient like family and ensure each patient walked out of his office with a smile.
Larry graduated from Southeastern College in Durant, with a B.S. in Science. Having a thirst for knowledge, Larry went on to study dentistry at the University of Kansas City (UMKC), in Kansas City, Missouri, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
In 1993, Larry, his son, his daughter, and hundreds of friends and family found time to build his dream home on his farm. The hours were long, the work was hard, but the friendship and love of friends and family is what the house was built with. Since completing his dream home in July 2011, the friendship and love has continued to flow through the home like a running stream.
Even with limited time, Larry realized his responsibility to his community. He was a pillar to his community, donating his profession and time to several organizations and charities. Although Larry moved on to a better place, his work and relationships will continue for many years to come.
One would think, with a dental practice, volunteer work, farming, and building his dream home, Larry would not have any hours or energy left to do anything else. Well, let me remind you, this is Larry we are talking about and he seemed to work around the clock. Some of the hobbies he squeaked in between everything else were: hunting, fishing, scuba diving and above all, aviation.
Larry's awards and recognition are too numerous to mention, but a few do stand out: President of the Comanche County Dental Society-1986, Who's Who, and voted Lawton's Best Dentist-1999. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and JoAnn Brewer.
In addition to Roxanne, Jessica and Scott, Larry leaves behind his very precious 22 month old granddaughter, Aly, who was the love of his life - "I love you Papa." Larry also leaves behind four brothers: John Brewer and wife Patti, William "Bill" Brewer and wife Suzanne, James "Jim" Brewer and wife Cheryl, and Paul Brewer and wife Trina; a sister, Annette Brewer and husband Sean. You can see with that many brothers and a sister, Larry also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, and ensuring others continue to benefit from his passing, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity or organization in memory of Dr. Larry Brewer. Larry's online guestbook can be signed and condolences sent by visiting: www.whineryhuddleston.com.
