A memorial service to celebrate and remember the life of Sherise Louise Bray will be held at a later date. Sherise passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 29, 2024, with her life partner, Steve Himes at her side. She was 64.
Born September 17, 1960, in Syracuse, Kansas to Russell and Johnnie Lou (Welsh) Bray. Sherise graduated from Claremore High School, with the class of 1978 where she lettered in tennis and was voted “wittiest” in her class. She continued her education at Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, and later earned an MBA concentrating in Finance. After her first degree, she was a Manager at a Children’s Place store in Fort Worth. Upon earning her MBA she enjoyed a challenging career as a Financial Analyst at Chase bank, AEP, NiSource, Keurig/Dr. Pepper, Lane Bryant, and Checkfree.
While in Fort Worth, she met Steve Himes, whom she married on May 18, 1991, in Claremore after they accomplished their MBAs together at Oklahoma State. They relocated to Richland, Washington, then moved onto Reynoldsburg, Ohio, where their careers led them.
Sherise loved tennis, nature, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, golfing, painting, playing piano, Oklahoma State sports, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and listening to music, especially Garth Brooks, Pink Floyd, and Rush. She kind of liked snow skiing, bravely beginning at daunting Brighton, Utah, and continuing at Killington, Vermont and Holiday Valley, NY. She was an excellent cook, specializing in Tex-Mex, Italian, and sauces. She was good at cooking steaks and chops on the grill too.
Sherise also loved traveling and was able to take several annual luxurious vacations to Riviera Maya in addition to excursions to Nuremberg, Munich, Saltzburg, Prague, and the Bahamas. Domestically, she traveled to San Diego, Washington state, Washington D.C., Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Notably, during one of her Mexican vacations, she landed a 500-pound blue marlin by herself after a long battle. Sherise was always embraced by Steve’s family and friends in his hometown in Pennsylvania. They frequently vacationed in Pennsylvania, enjoying the region’s fishing, camping, nature, culture, friendship and hospitality.
Sherise is survived by her life partner, Steve Himes of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and best friends, Darlene Passmore Armstrong and Mendy Stone, of Claremore, as well as several cousins, and her sweet baby angel Boston terrier, Millie. Sherise was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and her Boston terriers, Tater Bug and Buster.
In lieu of flowers or other condolences please consider making a donation in Sherise’s name to Rogers County Volunteers for Youth, your local SPCA, St. Jude, or the charity of your choice.
