EUDORA, KS - Kathleen Ann Braithwaite, 48, of Eudora, Kan., passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 25, 1965, in West Englewood, New Jersey, to Mary and Galen Braithwaite.

Kathy was raised in Enid, Okla., graduated from Enid High School and attended Oklahoma State University and Phillips University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in 1988, and master?s in education from Emporia State University.

Kathy taught special education classes in the state of Kansas for more than 20 years, and had an extraordinary talent for working with special-needs children.

Most recently, she served at Eudora High School. She especially loved reading, puzzles, texting Kali, meeting with her cousins and having dinner with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Galen and Mary Braithwaite, and brother Gary Braithwaite.

She is survived by her brother, Patrick; niece, Kali; nephews, Kit and Ethan; Gary?s wife, Melissa; Erin and Josh; and several aunts, uncles and special cousins who loved her dearly.

A memorial fund has been set up in Kathy?s name at Eudora High School, designated for the Special Education Department. Contributions may be sent to the Kathy Braithwaite Memorial fund, 2203 Church Street, P.O. Box 712, Eudora, KS 66025.

Friends of Kathy are invited to gather at the home of her Aunt Glenda Johnson 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 11712 W. 108th St., Overland Park, Kan., for refreshments, and to celebrate her life and to swap stories and remembrances of Kathy. Please RSVP to (913) 469-9640, and bring any pictures you may have and memories of funny events to share about times with Kathy. A collage of her life in Kansas will be made. If you can?t come, please feel free to send a note or picture.

Kathy will be missed by her family, friends, fellow teachers and the many students she has helped through the years.

A family memorial service will be held in Enid, where her parents and grandparents are buried.
