Glendewene (Glenda) Parker Bradley was born in Love County on January 17, 1923, and died at her home in Farmers Branch, Texas on March 9, 2013, at the age of 90.
She was a 1941 graduate of Marietta High School and a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Midwest City during World War II. A few years later, she joined Sears, Roebuck and Company in Klamath Falls, Oregon before transferring to Oklahoma City, where she managed the jewelry department.
On July 16, 1955, she married Luke Martin Bradley in Oklahoma City. She later worked in and managed elementary school cafeterias in Tulsa and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District for over 20 years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Bradley of Irving, Texas; grandchildren, Laura Archer, Meredith Bradley and Parker Bradley, all of Dallas, Nicholas Kennedy and Esme Culp of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Angela Fuston of Irving; great-granddaughter, Madison Marie Fuston of Irving; sisters-in-law, Juanita Aldridge of Ottawa, Illinois and Johnetta Bradley of Hammond, Indiana; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Luke, her husband of 52 years; parents, Elzie and Vera Parker; a sister, Neva Coble; and a brother, Kenneth Parker.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 13 at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch.
A celebration of her life was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 14 at Christ United Methodist Church, 2807 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, with the Rev. Bob Spencer officiating, immediately followed by a graveside service and interment at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, the family urges that memorials be directed to the North Texas Food Bank.
