Memorial services for Dave Bowlan, age 83, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 2, 2011 in the Havenbrook Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman.
Dave was born February 29, 1928 in Noble, Oklahoma. Dave passed away April 28, 2011 at the Norman Veterans Center.
Dave married Jewell Smith December 22, 1951. They were married for over 45 years until her death in 1997. They were blessed with two children - Sharon and Greg.
Dave served in the United States Navy in the late 1940’s. He attended the Oklahoma State Barber School in Oklahoma City in 1950. His first job was in Joe Riley’s Barber Shop on North Porter. On July 7, 1964, Dave bought Hollywood Barber Shop and operated it until his retirement in 2009.
Dave was a member of the Norman Church of Christ in which he assisted in the establishment of in 1961.
Dave loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He liked to play cards, working in the yard and having family and friends over for cookouts. Being an avid OU football fan he would host cookouts for the OU football team. Dave never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with anyone.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Covington and her husband, Dwayne of Wesson Mississippi; Greg Bowlan of Norman Oklahoma; one sister, Shirley Singleton of California; Grandchildren; Sarah and her husband John of Louisiana; Rebecca of Mississippi; Kristen and her husband J.C. of Oklahoma City; Heather of Jones; and 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
