Doris Jean Bowens of Durant, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Beacon Hill Nursing Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 84. Doris was born August 13, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jack Boyett and Audrey (Brown) Boyett.
Doris grew up and attended school in Oklahoma City. She taught at Hinton Elementary school in Chicago, Illinois for 4 years. Doris married Glen Ross Bowens in Chicago, Illinois. Doris was a licensed hairstylist over 30 years until recently. She was last employed at the call center, at Butterfield’s as head hostess and as office assistant at the Choctaw Casino.
Doris had a passion for helping people and did for others rather than herself. She loved people and everyone who knew her, called her “Mimi”. Doris was very kind and family oriented. She was of the Holiness faith.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Ross Bowens in 2015; a son, David Parker; and a sister, Jackie Case.
She is survived by her sons, Glen Bowens and his wife, Sandy of Durant, and Larry Parker and his wife, Mary of Coalgate, Oklahoma; a daughter, Gina Jones of Lane, Oklahoma; grandsons, Marcus Bowens of Durant, Michael Bowens of Sherman, Texas, and Larenz Bowens of Durant; granddaughters, Kiarah Bowens and Kiana Bowens, both of Durant; her siblings, Veda New of Mead, Rickey Boyett, and Rhonda McConell of Atoka, and Carol Amiott of Atoka; and a host of other relatives and good friends.
Services to celebrate Doris’ life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 27th, at First Baptist Church in Stringtown, Oklahoma.
