ALVA - The graveside service for Vesta Jean Bowden, 70, of Alva, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa, Kan. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born July 3, 1939, near Sunset, Ark., to Zella Pearl Sanders and Charles Edward Mitts and died Friday, April 9, 2010, at Alva Medical Center.
She grew up in Ingersoll and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1957. She worked at Alva General Hospital as a medication aide and retired from Share Memorial Hospital after 40 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Tidwell of Alva and Roberta Obrecht of Missouri Valley, Iowa; two sons, Darrell Bowden of Carmen and Mike Bowden of Alva; three sisters, Dorothy Steinle of Mulvane, Kan., Nyla Scott of Chambers, Neb., and Irma Smith of Aline; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one brother and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Make A Wish Foundation.
