Mary Elaine (Ball) Boren, second of three daughters born to Alfred and Dorothy (Plummer) Ball, was born November 15, 1956 in Enid, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Monday, May 20, 2013 at age 56, at Midwest Regional Medical Center.
Mary was raised on the Ball family ranch north of Chester, Oklahoma in Major County. She attended school in Waynoka where she graduated high school with the class of 1975. She furthered her education at Southwestern in Weatherford where she earned both her bachelors degree in elementary education and masters degree in Reading Specialist. She married Lance Childers in 1976 and they were blessed with two children: Kelli Elaine and Michael Lance. She taught school for several years including Greenfield, Chandler and Midwest City before an auto accident January 11, 2005 forever changed her life leaving her a quadriplegic She was united in marriage to Jeff Boren in 1997 who was her best friend and later became her care giver. She enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and the good they accomplished in helping others. During her teaching career, she loved teaching children to read and she always decorated with her Charlie Brown collection. Her schools depended on her to make beautiful scenery and props for plays and musicals.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Boren of Moore, one daughter, Kelli Melrose and husband Jacob of Chandler, step daughters Natalie Johns and husband Michael and Ashley Boren, her father, Alfred Ball of Fairview, two sisters, Leota Betts of Oklahoma City and Sonya Darr and husband Travis of Waynoka, two step grandchildren, Aiden and Landon Johns, her aunt, Mary Gibson, as well as, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Childers and her mother Dorothy Ball.
Memorials can be made through Redinger Funeral Home-PO Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 to the American Red Cross in memory of Mary to help the victims in Moore with their recovery efforts.
