Edmond C. Booker
January 27, 1928 ~ June 11, 2017

Edmond C. Booker was born January 27, 1928 in Sedalia, South Carolina to Laura & Willie Booker. He died on June 11, 2017 at the Lawton Ft Sill Veteran Center at the age of 89 years old. Edmond C. Booker was the last of the Bookers' of Sedalia, South Carolina.

Edmond was one of ten children. He grew up on a farm, helping to take care of the livestock, plowing, planting, and harvesting the crops.

He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and came to Ft Sill for basic training. He worked hard and received his GED while he was in the Army. The Army sent him to meat cutting school and baking school to become a Mess Hall Cook. From Ft Sill, he went to Fairbanks, Alaska and did 3 tours in Vietnam.

He married Fannie Mae McBeth on February 12, 1952 in Union, South Carolina. To this union, six children were born; Pat, Edmond Jr., Dannie, Ben, Brenda, and Phobia Booker. When he retired from the Army on July 31, 1971 he sought employment in Janitorial Service. He did this for many years. He inquired how to bid on a US Mail Route when he worked for Josh Sheppard. He put a bid in and received a contract. He operated many mail routes for over 38 years.

He started studying the Bible with Melvin Hall, and symbolized his dedication to Jehovah God in 1977. He married Vera Booker on December 22, 1980. To this union one daughter was born Leticia Booker.

He retired in January 2015. He wasn't very happy to be retired the first six months. He then heard of a school for Senior Citizens to improve their reading, writing, and arithmetic. He thought it would be an opportunity to pick up where he was not able to do in his early life.

... You see, he was removed from school in his elementary years so that he could work in the field and care for his family when his father fell ill. He was never able to return back to school. So in his retirement, he thought this would be an opportunity to finish where he left off many years ago, so he signed up!

He enjoyed helping families in need by cooking for the entire family when necessary. He exercised that passion whether he was working, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, and especially Dominos!

He is preceded in death by his parents Laura & Willie Booker, five brothers: Jessie, Russell, Albert, O.C., and David Booker. Six sisters: Jeanette Fergunson, ElWillie Fergunson, Anna Thompson and Mattie Hunter.

He is survived by his wife Vera Booker, Pat & Bill Terry, Edmond C. Booker JR. , Dannie & Lucinda Booker, Brenda & Joe Carr, Phobia & Tim Newton and thirteen grandchildren: Nathan, David, Heather, Hollie, Hali, Brandon, Stewart, Edmond III, Kimberly, Marissa, John Mark, TeeJay, and Simeon. Twelve great grandchildren: Ethan, Caitlyn, Olivia, Natalie, Stewart's children, Xavier, Jayden, Jayce, Marilyn, Adeline and a host of relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for their visits, phone calls, and encouragement during this time.
