Josephine Lou “Jodie” Bond, 77 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Josephine Lou Poplin was born on October 31, 1936 in the kitchen of the family home near Enid, Oklahoma, the 9th of 12 children to James Madison and Alta Jane (East) Poplin. Jodie was united in marriage to William Frank Shirkey, Sr. in February of 1953. They were blessed with four children, Lonnie Gene, Linda Jo, Mary Jane and William Frank “Billy” Jr. Bill was in the Army and they lived all over the United States, Italy, and Germany. Bill returned from Vietnam and died in March of 1971.
Jodie was united in marriage to James Thomas “Tom” Bond on July 2, 1980. They were blessed with two daughters, Mona and Sheila. Jodie and Tom made their home in Enid before moving to Tiptonville, Tennessee. In 2003, Jodie and Tom moved to Woodward and they have lived here since that time.
Jodie was an avid sports fan and loved to watch Lonnie playing sports when he was growing up. She never missed an opportunity to watch her grandchildren, J.P. and Cliff participate in sports and the tradition of her making all the games continued with her attending as many as possible of her great grandchildren’s events.
Jodie loved to crochet and crocheted many afghan’s and other items for her family and many others. Jodie’s family was very important to her and they will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her husband Tom of the home; children; Lonnie Shirkey and wife Jamie of Woodward; Mary Jane Cordell and husband Jack of Russellville, Arkansas; Mona Scott and husband Audie; and Shelia Medders Bond all of Mooreland; grandchildren, J.P. Shirkey and wife Kelli; Cliff Shirkey and wife Holly all of Woodward; Shane Cronister and wife Misty of Enid; Jason Cronister and wife Tonya of Hennessey; Robbie Booth of Russellville, Artkansas; Misty Booth of Enid; Bryan Eidson of Corpus Christi, TX; Shane Edison and wife Amy of Mooreland; Clint Eidson of Midland, Texas; and Joe Bond of Oakland, Tennessee; great-grandchildren; Will, Cali, Jackson, Laynee, Caleb, Lucas and Kaybri Shirkey and Kaydence Scott all of Woodward; Kayeberely and Baylee Cronister, Dakota and Dillon Cronister, Jessica Booth and Elysabeth Booth, all of Enid; Jesse James Cronister of Hennessey; Madilynn Bond of Oakland, Tennessee; Aubrey and Morgan Eidson of Mooreland; Gavin Eidson of Ruidoso, New Mexico; siblings, Margaret Loraine Lawrenz, Ethel Jane Buffalo and Howard Poplin all of Enid; sister-in-law, Gayle Poplin of Enid; numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her two children, Billy Shirkey in 1983 and Linda Jo Cronister in 1993.
