Kathleen "Kay" Bonar was born Sept. 30, 1926, to Victor and Verna Carpenter Thomas in Holyoke, Colo.
In 1946, she married Patrick F. Rea, Capt. USAF. During their marriage, they lived in Denver, Colo.; Anchorage, Alaska; and Sacramento, Calif. Patrick died in 1961.
Kay married Maj. William "Bill" Bonar, USAF, and in 1967, they transferred to Vance Air Force Base, Enid, where Kay lived until her death June 4, 2015. During that 48 years she made many dear friends and touched many lives.
Kay worked at the Social Security Administration office for many years, meeting and helping hundreds of people. She was an avid golfer and loved to visit the local casinos, where she was notorious for her luck with the slot machines. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for several years.
Kay was known for having a friendly and outgoing personality, playful sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. She was a great fan of dogs, especially poodles. Her poodle, Becky, and, later, Paris, were her beloved companions, accompanying her to friends' homes and during car rides to run errands.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Weyland, and granddaughter, Kathleen Weyland, both of Houston, Texas, and brothers, Gordon Thomas of Paoli, Colo., and Roger Decker of Redding, Calif.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the special people in her life for their friendship and care: Thomas and Helen Klein, Sandy and Ken Nahorski, Danny and Cheryl Gray and family, Don and Dana Woods, Jo Niles, Peggy Blubaugh, and her caregiver, Carla Henigman. A special thanks goes to Connor Gray for his personal assistance with groceries and newspapers.
At Kay's request, there will be no service. Friends are invited to her home for a reception at 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015. Arrangements are under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent at www.enidwecare.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to Enid SPCA.
