Hennessey - Peggy June Boehs was born on September 6, 1939, in Enid, Oklahoma to Richard Maxwell Hand and Vivian Lovely Hand and passed from this life on October 25, 2023. Peggy was raised in Ames on the family farm.
Peggy married Jay Allen Boehs on November 9, 1957, and this union lasted until Jay’s death in July 2022. They were married almost 65 years. Peggy and Jay resided in Kaw City for over 30 years and were very involved in the local community. They were members of the Kaws and
Squaws Square Dance Club and were devoted Red Cross volunteers, traveling to locations across the country to assist those in need. Peggy and Jay were each awarded RSVP Volunteer of the Year through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Peggy was also responsible for initiating the first meals program for the Senior Citizens Center of Kaw City and did the meal preparation for a period of time. Peggy was a member of the Kaw City Chamber of Commerce.
Peggy was a proud and hardworking homemaker. She enjoyed canning the yearly garden harvest, quilting and sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren, and of course square dancing. Peggy and Jay enjoyed frequent summer trips to Colorado and canoe trips with family and friends.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Jay Allen Boehs; her mother, Vivian Lovely Hand; her father, Richard Maxwell Hand, and her brother, Phillip Hand.
Survivors include her four daughters, Debra Lynn Unruh and husband, Greg of Belpre, Ohio, Patricia Lee Nelson and husband, Bill of Lewisville, Texas, Karyl Ann Paxson and husband, James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Barbara Kay Davidson and husband, Tracy of Ringwood, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Peggy has one surviving sister, Cathy McDaniel.
Memorials may be made to Red Cross through the funeral home.
