Nancy Ann (Brownson) Bliss

Nancy Ann (Brownson) Bliss
November 28, 1946 ~ July 23, 2022

The family of Nancy Bliss will celebrate her life of 75 beautiful years at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Enid, OK. Pastor Devon Krause will officiate. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Nancy passed peacefully, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren, at St. Mary's hospital Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Nancy was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Charles and Beulah Brownson, November 28, 1946.

Nancy attended Cherokee elementary school, where destiny came calling in the 2nd grade. Nancy reports her teacher, Miss Helen, strutted about in her stylish clothes and high heels, huskily dictating spelling words for the children to write on their Big Chief tablets, inspiring the soon to be "Miss Nancy" to become a life-long educator.

Nancy was a graduate of Cherokee High School and, soon, a commuting student from Cherokee to Alva to attend classes daily at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where she earned her Bachelor's of Education degree.

Following graduation, Nancy moved to Enid, where she began her teaching career at Pioneer Elementary. Unbeknownst to Nancy, her soon-to-be husband of the next 48 years was teaching Social Studies at the High School building next door.

Nancy married her life-long love, Ron Bliss, in 1973 at the Greenvalley church of Carmen. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Oklahoma City, where Nancy earned her Master's of Education from Central State University while teaching full time and gave birth to the couple's first-born son, Travis Brownson Bliss. Nancy took to motherhood naturally, staying home with her first-born before returning to Enid, where she resumed her teaching career in Remedial Reading. Ron and Nancy would later welcome two more children, Theron Joseph Bliss and Natalie Kathryn Bliss.

Nancy expressed her love for her children and husband in everything she touched, from the perfectly handwritten card, Hello Dolly bar, personalized Christmas ornament, scavenger hunt, no-bake cookies and homemade dinner with the family every night at the table. Nancy and Ron clocked thousands of miles every year as their children's biggest cheerleaders, attending every softball, baseball and basketball game in which their children participated.

Nancy later went on to earn her counselor's degree and became a long-standing member of EEA, OEA and the NEA. Nancy was a member of the United Methodist women's group and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Enid for more than 40 years, attending church every Sunday with her husband and children.

Nancy was an educator for 36 years of her life, working with children in the classrooms of Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 5th grade, Middle School, High School, and Title Reading and Math. Following her retirement in 2011, Nancy continued her love of teaching, tutoring students part-time. Nancy was quoted as saying "I've always worked in some way with children. Their honesty, enthusiasm and developmental stages fascinate me."

Following her retirement Nancy enjoyed 11 more years of cooking, making memories with her children and grandchildren and traveling to the Grand Canyon, Alaska, Barcelona and Rome with her husband Ron. Nancy put her heart and soul into everything she touched, from a handwritten poem helping you find your last Christmas present to personalized cards written in her impeccable handwriting on your birthday and anniversary. Nancy always found a way to make each and every one of us feel special. She will be incredibly missed by all who loved her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beulah Brownson, and her older brother, Frank Brownson.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Ron Bliss; her son, Travis Brownson Bliss and wife Melissa, with children Chelsea, Kylee and Addison; her son, Theron Joseph Bliss and wife Olivia, with children Brekyn, Jocelyn and Evelyn Ann; and her daughter, Natalie Bliss Crites and husband Jeff Crites, with son Charley Crites and her brother Charles "Chuck" Brownson of Joliet IL.

The family of Nancy has designated the Lewy Body Dementia Association for memorial contributions in her loving memory through Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
