LaVerne (Sims) Bledsoe

August 17, 1920 ~ May 03, 2018

LaVerne Sims Bledsoe, 97 of Colbert, OK passed away May 3, 2018. Born August 17, 1920 in Colbert, OK to Sam Patrick Sims and Lena Pearl (Sharp) Sims. Preceded in death by her husband Elvis Bledsoe, daughter-in-law Jodie (Smith) Bledsoe, brothers Sam Bill Sims and Paul Dale Sims and her parents.

She met the love of her life, Elvis Bledsoe, while working in Dallas, TX at a defense plant during WW II. They were married on December 25, 1944. She raised her family in Dallas, while teaching in Dallas Independent School District 28 of her 32 years in education. Graduate of Colbert High School and Southeastern University, she had always visualized herself as a teacher. After retirement, she and Elvis moved to Colbert to farm and ranch. She was a lifetime Methodist, attending Pleasant Mound Methodist in Dallas and returning to her childhood church, Colbert United Methodist, where she was still an active member.

Survived by son David Bledsoe; daughter Colleen and husband Gerardo Mungioli; sister Bettye June Whiting; sister-in-law Mary Jo Cox; Grandchildren: Mike Bledsoe and Kay Beth (Ridling); Mat Bledsoe and Cindy (Baugus) great-grandchild Noah; Mitch Bledsoe and Glenetta (Wood) great-grandchildren Max and Makoy; Marcus Mungioli and Kristen (Cathey) great-grandchildren Nico, Sam and Marcella; Christina Mungioli and fiance Scott Hope and great grandchild Carlena.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 6 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK. Service will be Monday, May 7 at 10:00 am at Colbert United Methodist Church, Burney & Mc Carley, with Karen Slater officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas. The pallbearers will be Mat Bledsoe, Mitch Bledsoe, Max Bledsoe, Marcus Mungioli, Nico Mungioli, Sam Mungioli, Scott Hope, and Steve Whiting. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bledsoe, Makoy Bledsoe, and Don Sims.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Colbert United Methodist Church, PO Box 1148 Colbert, OK 74733
