Charles Ray Blanks

February 16, 1936 ~ June 1, 2010

Charles Ray Blanks, age 74, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Mangum, passed away at Plumb Creek Specialty Hospital on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Mr. Blanks was born on February 16, 1936, in Hedley, Texas to Charles Harvey and Ida (Guill) Blanks. Moving to Amarillo at a very young age, his mother died when he was eight. During WWII, he lived with his grandparents while his dad served in the United States Navy. After completing his schooling, he served with the US Navy as a Seabee. On October 29, 1954, he married the love of his life, Katherine J. Carroll. They were married fifty-four wonderful years before her death on September 19, 2009. After working in Amarillo for many years as a master machinist, they moved to Mangum in 2001. Playing dominoes and spending time with his family and friends were his favorite pastimes.

Preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Renell; his wife, Katherine; one brother, James Robert Blanks and a sister, Ruth Ann Blanks, he is survived by one son, Jessie Melvin Blanks of Mangum; two grandchildren, Randy Hodges and Justin Hodges; three great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

According to Charles' wishes, a private memorial service was conducted by the family and cremation services were provided by Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
