Gary Lynn Blackerby, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on Friday, February 25, 1955, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Arthur W. Blackerby and Loleat Blackerby.
He was raised in Hobbs, New Mexico, and throughout his life one of his favorite things was spending a lot of time on regular excursions to Ruidoso, New Mexico with family.
Gary had a successful career. He worked for Texas New Mexico Power Company in Jal, New Mexico; Shell Oil in Houston, Texas; and Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma in Durant, Oklahoma. While with the Choctaw Nation, he worked in IT, Marketing, Web & Digital Signage, and he also served as a professional photographer/videographer for numerous Choctaw events and concerts, and for the creation of marketing visuals/materials. He recently retired from the Choctaw Nation.
Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Haskell; brother, Jerry Blackerby; and parents, Arthur and Loleat Blackerby.
Survivors include his sisters, Nina Livingston and Lou Ann Hoosier and her husband, Carl, all of Durant, Oklahoma; nephew, Bruce Livingston and his wife Karen, of Indian Land, South Carolina; grandchildren, Cameron Haskell, Lauren Haskell, and Chandler Haskell; great grandchildren Aiden Haskell and Riley Haskell, all of Virginia; and many friends.
Gary’s light will remain with his family and friends.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 8th, at Brown's Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Hayden Mathews officiating.
