Ruby “Jean” Black, age 84 of Newcastle, formerly of Oklahoma City, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Integris Baptist Medical center in Oklahoma City.
Jean was born on February 17th, 1929 in Quitman, Texas. She was the youngest of eight children born to Albert Morrow and Beulah (Graves).
Jean grew up and attended school in and around Quitman.
She married in 1947 and had four children during that marriage. While she was a stay at home mom, working hard to raise her children, she was also very active in her church and community especially helping elderly neighbors. She earned her LPN diploma in 1952 but didn’t begin a career in healthcare until 1975. During her 16 years as a care giver in health care she worked primarily with children and adults with disabilities as well as with the elderly.
Jean lived in Yukon, Oklahoma the majority of her working years. Throughout her life Jean loved animals, raising and caring for cats and dogs as well as simply spending time watching and feeding birds and squirrels in the garden. During the last few years of her life Jean grew to love watching OU and OSU football games but was most passionate about her love for watching Thunder basketball. Jean’s fondest memories in life were of the years she spent babysitting her grandchildren as they grew up.
She was preceded in death by: Her parents and seven brothers and sisters
She is survived by: Three daughters: Barbara Stafford and husband Velton of Blanchard, Ok Samantha Black of Newcastle, Ok Cathy Black of California One son: Tim Black and wife Cara of Norman, Ok
Ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little funeral home in Newcastle.
