Bryan Tom Black, of Jenny Lind, CA, passed away on April 26, 2015. He was born to George Elmer Black and Addie (Kester) Black on July 23, 1925 in Broken Arrow, OK. They moved to Oakwood, OK in 1930, where he went to Leanell School (a country school), then to Oakwood School. They then moved to Stilwell in the Bell community in 1942. In the summer of 1942 he attended a revival where he was saved and baptized. He lived in the Bell community until he enlisted in the Army. When he later went to California, to visit 2 of his sisters, he met and married Pauline, to this marriage, 4 daughters were born.
He visited family in Stilwell for many years and in July 2014 he attended the Kester/Black family reunion, which has been held for 40 years the first weekend in July.
He lived in Calaveras County, CA for 64 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator at the Calaveras Cement Plant for 28 years, until it closed in December, 1982. He then worked for the Corp of Engineers at Hogan Dam for several years.
He was one of the first volunteer fire chief for the Jenny Lind fire department. He was one of the founding board members of the Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial District and his work for them was instrumental in the construction of the original building located in Valley Springs, CA. He was a member of the Mason Lodge in San Andreas. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a supply clerk for the Nuremberg War Trials.
He lived in his family home in Jenny Lind, CA until his health declined, then went to live with his daughter, Nancy Moreno and family, until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Addie Black; brothers, Troy, Richard and George, Jr.; sisters, Minnie Heer, Loys Cloud, Susie Black, Mary Jane Black; grandson, Chipper Moreno.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Brawline (married for 30 years) of Campo Selo, CA. His younger sister, Glenna Jean Hall of Stilwell, Ok; daughters and son-in-laws, Judy King of Wasilla, AR, Nancy and Ted Moreno of Burson, CA, Mary and Tom McCallister of Spring Valley, CA and Cindy and Kyle Greer of Bakersfield, CA; nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service and reception on May 16, 2015 at 5 pm at the Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial Hall located in Valley Springs, CA.
