James Stephen Billings

James Stephen Billings
February 4, 1941 ~ November 5, 2007

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007, from 1~9 p.m., with services on Friday, November 9, 2007 at Greenlawn Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., at 10:00 a.m. Pastor John Gage will officiate services.

James Stephen Billings passed away November 5, 2007 with his wife and family at his side.

James was born February 4, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma and moved to California in the mid 1940's.

He resided in Bakersfield and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1959.

James retired from Chevron Texaco after more than 35 years of service.

James loved to laugh and tease endlessly. He was a sports enthusiast who played football, raced motorcycles, water skied and did competitive weight lifting. James loved and adored his wife, Pat and his family. James especially loved hunting with his nephew Greg Billing, watching his great nephew, Cody Kessler, play football.

James greatly enjoyed his morning coffee with his friends, family gatherings, and attending church services at Valley Baptist Church. James was a very devoted Christian who loved the Lord.

James is survived by his wife, Pat Billings; his brother, Kenneth Billings and wife, Bonnie of Atascadero; sister, Wanda Swisher and husband, Joel of Bakersfield; stepchildren, Lance and Elizabeth Petrina; grandchildren, Karrissa, Antonia, Anthony, Patric and Drew Petrina; great grandchildren, Jimmy and Larz Olen; sister~in~law, Peggy Onston of Washington; and brothers~in~law, Billy and Bobby Walston; and his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Ruby Billings.

Today, James has a new body with no pain or suffering. We love and miss him but know we will join him again in Heaven.

The family wishes to thank Emma Kearney and special thanks to BeeBee Upton and the staff of Hoffmann Hospice for their loving care during James' short illness.
