Richard Lyle “Dick” Bierig was born on June 17, 1931, and passed from this life on March 15, 2024. Dick was born to Sol and Florence (Fuller) Bierig, nine miles east of Fairview Oklahoma. He spent his youth and young adult life in this area. On July 21, 1950, he married Barbara Slaght. To this union were born 3 sons, Dennis, Tom, and Rick, and a daughter Dixene. He dedicated much of his life to the oil field. This work enabled his family to experience life across several states, including Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming, and even a brief stint in Canada. When they were not moving around in the oil field, Dick and Barbara owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store and Dick’s Clothing in Longdale Oklahoma.
When anyone asked Dick about his dreams, he would light up with enthusiasm. Racing thoroughbred horses and farming were at the top of his list. He made those dreams a reality by owning racehorses and traveling to tracks in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Nebraska. He provided custom combine services and worked the land on the farm near Ringwood, Oklahoma. Dick was a hard worker, but he also knew how to enjoy life. Whether it was a good pitch game with family and friends or celebrating the annual Bierig Reunion at Canton Lake, he always found joy in connecting with people.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Barbara, three sons Dennis (Darla K), Tom (Mitzie), Rick (Cindy), and a daughter Dixene (Rick) Howerton, eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Warren Bierig, Bruce Bierig, Vernon Bierig, Jewell Becker, and Ilene Doughty.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and kindness during this time. They would also like to thank Dr. Stephen Price and the nurses at Fairview Regional Medical Center, Chris and the rest of the nursing staff of The Fairview Fellowship Home, and the CompleteOK Home Health and Hospice team.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Fairview with Pastor Derek Cox officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairview or the charity of your choice. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
