Joey Berends, 32 year old Fargo resident, died Monday August 15, 2022 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Joseph Wayne Berends was born October 6, 1989 in Garden City, Kansas; he was the son of Tammie (Schiller) Berends. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo High School. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Joey worked as a cattleman on his Grandpa Harvey's farm and worked as a cook for T.J. Diner, which was also his grandparents. Joey went to work for the City of Woodward as an Electrician's helper three years ago.
He was united in marriage to Ashley McCoy on National Star Wars Day which is May 4, 2019 at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. They made their home in Fargo with son Clayton whom he loved as his own. Joey loved spending time with his family, friends and he loved their animals. He also enjoyed playing video games, watching movies, shooting guns and just doing everything with his family. He was a member of the Pokemon Club at USA Comics.
He is survived by his wife Ashley Berends of the home; son, Clayton Ricke of the home; his mom, Tammie Berends; grandparents: Ted and Bobbie Harvey, Ed and Terri Schiller; in-laws, Mark and Carol McCoy; one brother, Jonathan Schmucker and wife Kristen; sister Mary Helmuth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Zach and Kayla McCoy and Amanda and Jacob Walker; nephews: Brian Silver, Orrin Helmuth, Keston Schmucker, Kyler and Cooper Walker, Paxton Nunez; nieces: Ellie Walker and Bellamy McCoy; Aunt Tonya LaRiveiere; Ashley's grandparents: Martin and Mary McCoy, Loren Burlingame, Patsy and Guy Oliver; other relatives and many friends.
Joey was preceded in death by his great-grandmother Dorothy Troxel and Ashley's grandma Etta Burlingame.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clayton's College Fund with the check being made to Ashley with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
