Duane L. Benz, 66 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at his home in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with David Worsham, Faith Hospice Chaplain officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Duane Larry Benz was born on August 6, 1950 in Hazen, North Dakota; he was the son of Ivan Harold and Irene Lydia (Mann) Benz. The family lived in Hazen, North Dakota before moving to Mullen and Kellogg, Idaho at the age of 10. The family then moved to Grants, New Mexico and later Buena Vista, Colorado. Duane graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1968. He was inducted into the United States Air Force in 1960. He served his country during Vietnam and received various medals including, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with Device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Devices, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. Duane was honorably discharged in 1980. He attended Wichita State University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy S. Holford on October 1, 1990 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They made their home in Arkansas City, Kansas. Duane worked for Service Master in Management until 1983. He then went to work for Avaya-Lucent and continued working there until his retirement. They moved to Woodward in 2010 and have lived there since that time.
Duane was a member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, bowling, reading, traveling, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his wife and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Benz of the home; daughters: Tara Benz of Kansas City, Missouri, Traci L. Benz of Plattsburg, Missouri; step-son, Dwayne Holford and wife Sharon of Oklahoma City; step-daughter, Debbie Williams of Elk Falls, Kansas; one sister, Sandy Curns and spouse Jia of Portland, Oregon; six grandchildren, Ranse Williamson, Seth Williamson, Zeke Holford, Hannah Williams, Tristan Benz and Alex Holford; great-grandchildren, Zailynn Holford, Sabree Reynolds, and Everett Williams; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Irene Benz and two brothers Douglas and Dale Benz.
