Evelyn (Northcutt) Bennett
May 18, 1918 - Sep 28, 2013

Mrs. Evelyn (Northcutt) Bennett, 95, of Bartlesville, passed away September 28, 2013.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at First Church of Bartlesville (formerly First United Methodist Church) with Dr. Kevin Tully officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: First Church of Bartlesville, PO Box 3636, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Evelyn was born May 18, 1918 at Wayne, OK to Kelsey and Mary (Crabtree) Northcutt. She married Marshall "Ben" W. Bennett on August 12, 1939 at Stroud, OK and was happily married for over 74 years. Evelyn graduated from Wayne High School and Business College in Oklahoma City. She went to work for a Life Insurance Co. in Oklahoma City until after her marriage to Marshall.

Evelyn and Marshall were pioneer developers of East Frank Phillips Blvd. They purchased over an acre of land and opened Evelyn's Gift and Children's Wear, while the Jane Phillips Hospital was being built. She sold flowers, gifts and children's clothing and had the prettiest gift wrapped packages in all of Bartlesville. Evelyn retired from the gift shop after 16 years, but was still very active in various Bartlesville activities. Evelyn and Marshall have been members of the First Church of Bartlesville (formerly First United Methodist Church) for over 70 years, where Evelyn was very active in the United Methodist Women's (UMW) group. She attended bible study classes there for many years. Evelyn was a 50 Year Member of the Bartlesville Pilot Club, joining the club in April 1960. She was the President from 1967-1968; she received the Pilot of the Year award in 1989-1990 for the Bartlesville Pilot Club; and Evelyn was the PI Sweetheart Outstanding Pilot for 2004-2005, an International honor. Evelyn and two of her friends traveled extensively with the Pilot International Convention. A fellow Pilot recently said of Evelyn, "she was very much a true Pilot." Evelyn was an avid bridge player of several different bridge clubs and played bridge until her recent illness. She was also a retired member of Credit Women's Organization. She served many years as a volunteer usher at the Bartlesville Community Center and OK Mozart.

Evelyn was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonderful, kind and generous woman that was a delight to know. She dedicated much of her time in helping friends who were in need.

She is survived by her husband Marshall "Ben" W. Bennett of Medicalodge of Dewey, OK and her daughter, Carroll A. and husband Butch Sturm of Bartlesville. Evelyn was blessed with five grandchildren, Lisa A. Covey of Bartlesville, Denise and husband J.C. Marquez of Bartlesville, Gary Lorenz and wife Shannon of Pasadena, CA, David Bennett and wife Stephanie of Stillwater, Elizabeth Ann and husband George Hanlon of Broken Arrow.
