Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandather, friend and avid Buc fan, Harrison “Lyle” Becker passed away at the age of 75 on June 14th, 2024.
Lyle was born July 6th, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma to Harrison and Jewell Becker. Lyle’s family lived in various Oklahoma towns before settling in Fairview where he graduated in 1966. He attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and then pursued a career in the newspaper business. His first job was at the Claremore Daily Progress. Lyle was married to Diana in 1970 and had two daughters, Kelli and Kristin. The family moved to Cordell, OK in 1978 where Lyle worked at the Cordell Beacon and eventually became the owner. In 1991 he sold the Cordell Beacon and moved back to Claremore. A year later, he ventured down to Texas where he was Editor and Publisher of the Bonham Daily Favorite. In 1993 he bought The Tonkawa News and moved back to Oklahoma. After 17 years he decided to sell the Tonkawa News and move to Fairview to be closer to his Mom and Dad. While in Fairview he worked as a dispatcher for the Fairview Police Department. Lyle moved back to Tonkawa and back to work at the Tonkawa News where he stayed until he became ill on March 30th, 2024.
Lyle enjoyed spending time with family and friends. You could always find him every Friday night at the Buccaneer football game walking the sidelines. He also enjoyed being at the lake and cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners.
He is survived by two daughters, Kelli Hacker and husband Cliff of Tonkawa and Kristin Estes of McKinney, TX; Seven Grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Courtney, Kymberlyn, Dallin, Max and Morgan; Eleven Great Grandchildren; One brother, Lynn and wife Connie of Owasso and one sister Lana and husband Randy Miles of Oklahoma City.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Tonkawa Athletics, 500 E North Ave. Tonkawa, OK 74653.
