Harold Glen 'Buzz' Bechtold

February 29, 1924 ~ August 7, 2009

Harold Glen Bechtold - Midwest City, Ok- After a seven year battle with cancer, Harold Glen 'Buzz' Bechtold, 85, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away on August 7th, 2009. Buzz was born on February 29, 1924, as a leap year baby in Augusta, Kansas, to John W. and Jessie May (Hartman) Bechtold.

He graduated from Augusta High School in 1941 and then joined the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served until December 1945. He was a fighter pilot in the Black Sheep Squadron and flew P-38s in the Pacific Theatre.

On June 28, 1955, he married Betty Keck of Rock, Kansas.

He retired as a Contractor Liaison Management Representative for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, Inc. to Tinker Air Force Base. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service where he also retired.

Buzz enjoyed watching all the grandkids activities; OU, OSU and MWC Bomber sports; hunting; and fishing.

Buzz is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Bechtold; sons, Linden (Darlene) Bechtold of Midwest City and Bill (Jenny) Bechtold of Wichita Falls, Texas; and daughter, Kim Bechtold Miller of Lenexa, Kansas; grandchildren, Brian, Josh, Jansen, Derrick, Ryan, Katie, Ashley, Jacob, Malorey, Samantha, Turner; great granddaughter, Elizabeth; nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Helen Bechtold; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Louie Howerter and Henrietta and George Bilimek; sister, Melba Bechtold; and great nephew, Doug Howerter.

Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm at the Barnes Friederich F.H. on Thursday, August 13.
