Former Oklahoma State Trooper David Ed Beaver entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday night, February 3, 2022 from his home in rural Fairfax, Oklahoma. He was 69 years young.
David, affectionately known as Eddie, was born on Saturday, April 26, 1952 in Pawnee, Okla. to proud parents Edward LeRoy and Irene Willie (Parks) Beaver. Growing up he attended school at Pawnee with his brothers, graduating with the Black Bear Class of 1970.
As a young man, he began his career with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol graduating from the 36th Academy as an OK State Driver’s Examiner. In 1982 Eddie became a State Highway Patrolman for Troop K before transferring to the Muscogee Turnpike in 1990. After 27 years working the highways, the now distinguished 2nd Lieutenant Beaver officially retired in 2005. Following retirement, he moved to the Fairfax area and went to work at OG&E electrical company near Sooner Lake for many years, fully retiring on March 31, 2016.
Eddie married Sharon G. Cotner and they spent a “lifetime” of years together.
Some of Eddie’s most enjoyed activities centered around the time spent with family, especially his grandkids and most recently great grands. He was a huge OU Sooner sports fan, enjoyed his time hunting in the woods and fishing in the area lakes.
Times we all and especially the grandchildren will never forget. Your love, your patience, your understanding, your wisdom, and your amazing sense of humor will live on inside us forever.
Like so many other heroes, you leave us draped in the flag you loved. You have always honored it.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Sondra (Brian) Lytle of Fairfax, Brandie (Jody) Tapp of Ponca City, Kari (Duke) Regan of Edmond, and Shannon Johnston of Atkins, Ark.; seven grandchildren Megan Lytle, Madison Lytle, Drake Tapp, McKenna Tapp, Kate Hawthorne, Zenderly Sinclair, and Zeriya Johnston; two great-grandchildren Colt Jon Warnock and Jaxon Ray Caldwell; brother Melvin Calvert; brothers in law Phil Cotner, Gary Cotner, Johnny Cotner; sister in law Shelly Cotner; and numerous other extended family and forever friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon (Cotner) Beaver, and brother Roy Calvert.
A Memorial Service will be held 2p.m., Friday, February 11, 2022 at the First Osage Baptist Church, Fairfax with Chaplin Sam Garner of the Highway Patrol officiating. The OHP Honor Guard will provide OHP honors at the conclusion of the service.
Honorary bearers are Phil Cotner, Gary Cotner, Johnny Cotner, Gary Hughart, Mike Childress, and Larry Logan. Arrangements are under the care of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home, Fairfax. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society, 900 W Prospect Ave, Ponca City OK 74601.
Goodbye, Dad & Papa, you will always live on in our hearts.
