Services for Richard Beard will Friday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m., at Reed-Culver Chapel. He will be buried beside his son, Richard, and his daughter, Cynthia.
Richard was born on March 15th, 1930 in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, the son of Charlie Lee and Dora Bell (Martin) Beard. Richard worked as a carpenter his entire lifetime. On Oct. 30, 1948, Richard married his wife, Gladys "Jeanette" Powell in Kiowa. This union was blessed with 63 years and five children.
Richard was a hard working man who believed in making his own way in the world. He was a gifted gardener and raised beautiful vegetables. Occasionally, you could find him getting his fishing pole ready for an excursion to the creek. Whatever he decided to do, Richard gave it everything he had. Serious and thoughtful, Richard loved his wife and children and loved spending time with them, enjoying a meal or a chat.
A Baptist by faith, Richard was called home to his Lord and savior on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in Broken Arrow, with his family by his side. He was 82 years old. Richard will be deeply missed by his wife and family.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Duncan in 1972; son, Richard Bricent Beard in 2003; as well as several of his brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish Richard's memory include his wife, Jeanette of the home in Welling; three loving children, Debra Varley and husband Vic of McCloud, Jeanette Lea of Tahlequah, and Billy Beard and wife Trish of Corinth, Texas.
Richard leaves two surviving sisters, Ruby Yoast of McAlester, and Betty Holland and husband O.C. of Kiowa. His legacy will live on in his five grandchildren, Bobby Spradling, Michael Lea, Richard Lea, Brandy Beard-Laney and husband Greg, and Logan Beard. His six great-grandchildren include Nikki Spradling, Kerstin Spradling, Evver Spradling, Rylan Lea, Bricent Lea and Kaleigh Laney; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
