Karl Lloyd Bean
August 15, 1929 ~ July 15, 2015

 OKLAHOMA CITY Lloyd passed away peacefully at his home in Oklahoma City Wednesday, July 15, at the age of 85. He was born August 15, 1929 in Oklahoma City to Simon Karl & Velma Lois Bean. Lloyd was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Preceded in death by parents Velma and Karl Bean, brother James Bean, sister Anita Jo Bailey, and daughters Teresa Thomas and Leslie Hamilton, & nephew Michael Bailey.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Bean, two sons and daughter-in-law, Matt & Krysti Bean, Owasso, OK; and Walter Bean, Stratford, TX; five grandchildren Taylor Bean, Kaitlyn Potter, Mari Potter, Nicholas Koebele, and Kinsley Bean, all of Owasso, OK; niece Patti Sue Saurage of Houston, TX.

Lloyd attended Central High School and The University of Oklahoma then proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the staff to the 7th Fleet Admiral. He enjoyed recalling his experience of being on the way to Australia when word arrived the Korean Conflict has just started and they were ordered back to combat. The whole fleet made a big u-turn and headed back to the war zone.

After honorably serving his country Lloyd embarked on a career in the building materials business, eventually managing and owning Reints Sash & Door. He served on many boards such as the Oklahoma Lumberman's Association, National Sash & Door Jobbers Association, National Building Material Distributors Association, Advisory Council of Abitibi Corp, Chief of Advisory Board of BeeCee Manufacturing Company, GlamourTop Distributors Advisory Council, and President & Chairman of the Board for the Associated Building Centers of America.

Lloyd sold Reints and moved on to a new career when he & Carolyn opened The Bookshelf which later became The Audio Bookshelf and expanded to open a store in Tulsa.

Lloyd was a faithful member of Church of the Servant where he grew closer in his relationship with Christ. Building his relationship with Christ, having his weekly Friday lunch with "the boys", spending time with his family, in particular with his grandchildren, and traveling were his top priorities in his retired years. He loved his travels to Europe and Mexico, in particular Italy, visiting five times.

A Celebration of a Life Well Lived will be held at 1:30 P.M. July 24, 2015 at the Church of the Servant - Celebration Center, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., OKC, OK, and a reception will follow at the Quail Creek Golf and Country Club - Upstairs Ballroom, 3501 Quail Creek Road, OKC, OK 73120.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., OKC, OK 73142 or to Sunbeam Family Services, 1100 NW 14th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73106
