Maria Guadelupe Bazaldua, was the third child of seven children born to Vicente and Henriqueta Bazaldua. She was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico on August 14, 1946. When she was nine years old, her dad moved the family to San Antonio, Texas, where she grew up. After graduating from Breckenridge High School, Lupe went to live with her older sister, Carmen, and her husband in Derby, Kansas. She took a job on an assembly line at Boeing where she met a handsome young man named John Garroutte, who she married on November 17, 1967, and settled in Mulvane, Kansas. The couple soon moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where they started their family and raised their three girls. There was nothing more important to Lupe than her three girls. She devoted her entire life to them from the moment they were born. The love she had for her girls was only surpassed by her love for God, whom she served tirelessly. Her labor of love was children.
She immersed herself into church bus ministry picking up children for church every Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. On Saturdays, she would visit the kids at home getting to know their parents. Through her persistence and loving spirit, she became God's instrument for bringing others to Christ. She loved fearlessly, opening her home to those less fortunate or helping strangers in the street. She loved the elderly and cared for them with loving patience. When grandkids and great-grandkids came along, her love mutated into something that the human mind can't comprehend. She gave everything and would sacrifice her own wants, needs, or desires for them. She was the greatest example of selfless love that many will ever know. She loved God, she loved people. After an exhausting battle with COVID, the Lord gave her loving heart rest, calling her home on Friday- September 24, 2021.
Lupe is survived by her three girls whom she cherished; Nancy Hinton and husband, Amos, of Lawton, Laura Medina and husband, Victor Medina, of Wichita, Kansas, and Sandy May of Ponca City; her grandchildren, Julianna Truyen, Marcus McMillan, Jade Garroutte, John Medina, Jared Medina, Joshua Medina, Jonah Medina, Jacob Medina, Andrew May, Janae May, and Jaron May; ten great-grandchildren, Addison Truyen, Noah Truyen, Parker Truyen, Lucille Ward, Jaya Medina, Cora Medina, Landyn May, Audrianna May, Ethan May, and Aiden Jones; her beloved sisters, Carmen Rosenstiel of Derby, Kansas, Irma Avila of Ponca City, Rosa Diaz of Wichita, Kansas, and Maria Garroutte of Wichita, Kansas. She also left behind a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jesse Bazaldua, her sister, Diane Guerrero, her brothers-in-law, Jack Rosenstiel, Enrique Avila, and her husband, Del Houser.
She leaves a legacy of love. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, and she has kept the faith.
