Lucille Ogden Bayles was born July 30, 1921 in Pettigrew, Arkansas to Roy David and Desta (Burnett) Ogden. She passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years, 6 months and 23 days.
Lucille attended grade school in Boston and Pettigrew, Arkansas and graduated from Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Arkansas in 1939. She married Marion E. “Junior” Bayles Jr. of St. Paul, Arkansas, December 24, 1940. They resided in Detroit, Michigan until 1944 when Junior entered the Armed Services. He was later killed in action, March 5, 1945 while serving in Germany during World War II.
Lucille moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma in 1944 and resided in the Chalk Bluff Community for more than 50 years. She owned and operated Bayles Five and Dime in Stilwell for 10 years and later became Secretary to the President of Stilwell Foods where she worked until her retirement in 1981. Throughout the years, Lucille owned and managed a multitude of rental properties throughout the Stilwell and Tulsa Areas. She was saved and became a member of the Stilwell First Baptist Church in 1947 where she served as treasurer for many years. Her greatest joy was her family.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Pauline Ogden of Boston, Ark. brothers; Leo and Jimmy Ogden of Stilwell, and son, Larry Joe Bayles Sr. of Tulsa.
She is survived by son, Marion E. Bayles, III (Tracy) of Muskogee, daughter-in-law, Quata Bayles of Tulsa, grandchildren, Larry Joe “Joey” Bayles, Jr. (Tammy) of Verdigris, Kimberly Bayles LeFlore (Joe) of Owasso, Marion E. “Chip” Bayles, IV (Amber) of Bixby, and Steven Wesley Bayles (Monica) of Jenks, step-grandchildren, C. Ryan Watkins (Katie) of Muskogee, and Katie Beth Watkins of Fayetteville, Ark., 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nephews and niece, Jerry Ogden (Rowena) of Stilwell, OK; Butch Ogden (Suzie) of Stilwell, OK; Jack Ogden of Newalla, OK; and Valeria Ogden Bennett of Stilwell, along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 1, 2019 at Roberts/Reed- Culver Chapel, Stilwell, with Jack Ogden and Bro. Scott Latta officiating. Interment followed at Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
