Charles Ray Baxter passed away peacefully in his home at Kingston, Oklahoma on 16 April, 2024. He was born on 19 August, 1944 to his parents Clarence E. and Susie J. Baxter in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Ray was raised in a loving household all over southern Oklahoma with four brothers Clarence H. Baxter, Jimmy C. Baxter, Johnny W. Baxter, Joe B. Baxter, and two sisters Virginia A. Baxter and Barbara L. Baxter. He was known as the caretaker of his younger siblings, always helping his momma keep a watchful eye over them. As a young man raising his own family, Ray was the Master of all trades and a true artist when it came to upholstery. With his upholstery skills and owning his own business, customers came from miles away for him to complete a custom upholstery job in an automobile, or on a boat. He held many other jobs including mechanical fitter, plumber, construction, and he even picked cotton with all of his siblings just to help the family get by during the hard times.
Ray is preceded in death and joined in Heaven with both of his parents Clarence and Suzie Baxter, his late wife, Guelda Fay Baxter of 27 years, oldest son Raymond Charles Baxter, daughter Cynthia Marie Baxter, and three brothers Clarence, Jimmy, and Joe Baxter. Family members left to carry on Ray’s good deeds and loving memories are his loving sweetheart and wife Linda Whitehead of Toney, Alabama, oldest daughter Cheryl and husband Arnold Maraffi of Sherman, Texas, son Decco Baxter of Kingston, Oklahoma, son Bryan and wife Alisa Baxter of Kingston, Oklahoma, step-daughters Kitty and husband Tim Gilbert of Anna, Texas, Kelly and husband Mike Stephens of Sawyer, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sister Virginia and husband Dewey Bowers of Cartwright, Oklahoma, sister Barbara Proctor of Cartwright, Oklahoma, and brother Johnny of Denison, Texas. Ray also leaves behind a legacy of 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Ray lived his life by setting the example of hard work, commitment, and perseverance. He demonstrated to his children that anything you want to accomplish can be done as long as you set your mind to it. He passed down his love for fishing with a little touch of hunting to his children. Ray could be a very hard and serious man, but knew how to joke around, have fun, and be a little ornery when he wanted to. He enjoyed his Pepsi, his smokes, and a good glass of cornbread and milk. He was loved by all and enjoyed the company of many friends from all over. He will be dearly missed.
As Ray’s time on earth was coming to an end and his body weakened, he received total dedication and love from his angel and daughter-in-law Alisa Baxter while in their home in Kingston. She poured her heart and soul into ensuring his journey to earning his wings in Heaven was as comfortable as possible. Ray truly loved and cherished Alisa and thought she hung the moon. He was her Daddy-Ray. Special thanks from the family to his Guardian Hospice Nurse Ashleigh Williams, and CNA Kim Kelley. They treated our Daddy with complete love and respect.
