Robert Plummer Baughman, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Born on May 2, 1929, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Robert Harper Baughman and Betty Plummer Baughman. Robert, known as "Bob" to his friends and family, was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma.
He graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute, where he completed both high school and junior college. Bob went on to earn his degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1953, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
After graduation, Bob served as an armored reconnaissance platoon leader and company executive officer of the United States Army in Korea and the Hawaiian Islands from 1953 to 1955. It was during his time at the University of Michigan, where he pursued his master's degree, that he met the love of his life, Jo, who would later become his wife.
In 1956, Bob and Jo moved to Bartlesville to manage the local Baughman Lumber Company store. This was one of several in Oklahoma, a family business founded by his grandfather in 1908. Bob took pride in becoming the President and owner of Baughman Building Materials, continuing the four-generation family legacy. He retired in 1996 after decades of dedicated service to both the business and the community.
Bob was an active and influential figure in Bartlesville and beyond. He served as the state president of the Oklahoma Society for Crippled Children and spent 47 years on the Jane Phillips Medical Center Board. A longtime member of the Bartlesville Rotary Club, Bob was recently honored as a 65-year member. He also served on many local boards and projects and was a committed member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he was honored to serve as Senior Warden twice.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jo; his children, Beth and Rob (Tammy); and his grandchildren, Austin (Molly) and Clara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper and Betty Baughman.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Journey Home, 900 Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006, or St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 210 E 9th St, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Bob’s memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
