Penny Sharon Batson
November 27, 1964 ~ November 30, 2023

Penny Sharon Batson was born on November 27, 1964, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to William Van and Dana Ray (Mayhall) Batson. She passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, at the age of 59.

Penny lived most of her life in Marietta, OK. She graduated from Marietta High School and later Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where she obtained a master’s degree. She had taught at Wilson, Springer, and Turner Schools, and at the Ardmore Higher Education Center. She enjoyed teaching and was often correcting everyone’s grammar.

Penny had also worked for the Love County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher. In her spare time, she loved to color with pencils and gel pens. She was a former member of the Mahota Presbyterian Church.

Penny married Patrick “Pat” Francis McDonough on March 15, 1997, in Marietta. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2009.

Penny was also preceded in death by her parents; great-great nephew, Creed Hartman-Spradling; and sisters, Cathy Spradling and Dana Goodin.

Those left to cherish Penny’s memory are her stepdaughter Patricia Hawkes of Westmoreland, TN; grandchildren, Patrick Hawkes, Justin Patterson and Heather Hargett, all of Westmoreland; sister Stevie Chitwood and husband Scott of Marietta; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Memorial services for Penny will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Lawrence Anderson officiating. Cremation services under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta, OK.
