Memorial services for Wilfred "Bill" Batchelder, 86, of Chickasha will be held at 11: a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Wilfred Batchelder was born October 12, 1922, in Chrisney, Indiana, the son of William Ellis and Ethel Batchelder. He died April 3, 2009, at his home in Chickasha.

Bill grew up in Michigan and attended Wheeler Public Schools. Wheeler did not have a high school so he attended St. Louis High School which was six miles from Wheeler, Michigan.

He was drafted by the U.S Army at age 20 and was sent to Salina, Kansas where he was assigned to the 94th Infantry Division. He was stationed in Cherbourg, France, where he was a PFC in Division Headquarters. He ended his tour in Plzen, Czechoslovakia as WWII was ending. During his service time his division earned 4 Campaign Stars and he was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and another Bronze Star.

Bill and Irene Eckles Clancy were married in Higgins Lake Michigan. This union blessed them with three sons: John, Paul and Ned. He later married Elizabeth Drake, and they merged their families adding Darwin, Pete, Norman and Diane to the children.

He had worked for his wife's family business for some time before he went to work for Sun Oil Company, where he worked for over 37 years. In 1969, Bill transferred to Oklahoma, living a brief time in Healdton before coming to Chickasha.

Bill enjoyed many things, including woodworking, fishing, arrow point and mushroom hunting, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth on August 1, 1998; both parents; two brothers: Gordon and Bud; sister, Joan; daughter-in-law, Lynne Batchelder; and one grandson.

He leaves behind three sons: John Clancy Batchelder, of Michigan, Ellis Paul and Mary Ann Batchelder and their daughter, Rebecca "Batchelder" Hyatt, of Chickasha, and Ned Alan and GiGi Batchelder, of Montana; Liz's Children: Darwin Drake, of Michigan, Pete and Terry Drake, of Tennessee, Norman and Donna Drake, of Florida, and Diane and Don Dice, of Michigan; sister, Joyce and Leo Hogan, of Florida; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; special friends: Eddie and Kari King and their daughter, Mckayla, of Chickasha and Cody Hyatt, of Oklahoma, and Life Line Home Health and Hospice. A special thanks goes out to DaVita Dialysis group, and all the members of the Chickasha Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to DaVita Dialysis of Chickasha 228 S. 29th street; Chickasha, OK. 73018.

Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
