Laura Mae (Brown) Bass

Laura Mae (Brown) Bass
April 26, 1922 ~ February 25, 2019

Laura Mae Bass ,"Mae", 96 years old was called home on February 25, 2019. Mae was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on April 26, 1922 to James and Linda Brown. Mae married the love of her life, Wilbur Bass of Guthrie in 1938.

Mae attended High school in Meridian Oklahoma. At 17 years of age, Mae married the love of her life, Wilbur Bass of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Mae was a loving and devoted wife to Wilbur. They were married for 51 years. Mae and Wilbur had four children: Vernon, Allen, Evert, and Sandy. She was a devoted mother who cherished her children.

Mae and Wilbur worked together building up a successful RV business, "Bass Trailer Sales". Wilbur was a savvy salesman and Mae worked the front office and was a detailed bookkeeper. They worked hard and built a successful business that would allow them to build their dream home in Guthrie Oklahoma.

Mae's heart and home was lovingly open to family and friends and we all have many special memories. There were wonderful holidays, picnics, family reunions, fireworks, jamborees, church socials, special overnight stays, swimming, hiking, fishing times and much more that we shared together with our beautiful Mae. Grandma/nanny loved her grandchildren and would spend hours with them reading them stories, hiking, tea parties, exploring, overnight stays and cooking up favorite meals. Every summer she would sponsor her grandkids to Falls Creek Church Camp with Seward Road Baptist Church.

One of Mae and Wilbur's passions was traveling and owning RV's. They enjoyed seeing the country all over the USA and Canada. They had many adventures and would often bring grandkids along. For many years, the snow bird couple would head out, after Christmas from the cold Oklahoma winters, to the warm weather of Big Bend Texas where they would greet dear friends and enjoy fellowship during their annual winter gatherings.

Mae was "born again" into the family of God when she was a young mother. Her walk with God was constant and she loved the Lord. Mae and Wilbur were members of Seward Road Baptist Church. Mae served her church and God in many roles over the years including prayer team, choir, visitation, Sunday school teacher, youth camp sponsors and anything she could do to serve her lord. She attended Seward Road Baptist Church until she moved to Edmond where she continued to serve the Lord by leading Bible studies at the senior center. She continued teaching the Bible to others until she could no longer read the passages in her Bible or hear others speak. Mae loved to read the Bible every night and over the years she read the Bible from cover to cover many times. When she couldn't read anymore she listened to her Bible nightly. Mae was a prayer warrior. Her love for her family and friends accounted for hours of prayers for everyone that she loved. We know that that God will honor her unfinished prayers. God will continue to work through her prayers, and many of the things she prayed for will finally come to pass.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Wilbur, daughter Sandy, brothers David and Loyal, and sister Marion.

Mae is survived by children Vernon, Evert, and Alan, brother Frank, and sister Joy. Mae is survived by a very large extended family that loved her dearly.

We are happy she is home with Jesus and look forward to the time we can be together with her again. We love you forever Mae, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and dear friend.

Services will be held at Seward Road Baptist Church on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Rex Haymaker officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Seward Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 4801 W. Seward Road, Guthrie, OK 73044 or flowers may be sent to Smith-Gallo Funeral Home if friends or family wish to send them instead of a memorial donation to the Church in her name.
